Even mentioning the SI joint in a social media post is controversial, due to the decades-long debate regarding its contribution to dysfunction in the lower quadrant. Clustering of SI joint provocation tests have become common evidence-based practice to rule in/out the SI joint as a source of pain (Laslett, Young, Aprill, & McDonald, 2008). A recent JOSPT article (systematic review) (Saueressig, Owen, Diemer, Zebisch, & Belavy, 2021) concluded that a positive SI cluster indicated 35% certainty that the SI joint was a source of pain. More interesting is that there was 92% certainty that the SI joint could be ruled out as a source of pain.
