COMT (previously CMPT) Certification Overview

COMT 
(Certified Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Therapist) Certification consists of *5 courses (105 hours), *5 post course MCQ tests and a 
*2-station oral practical exam. Note: any courses taken as of January 1, 2024 forward will not require the post course MCQ tests. All of the quizzes and case studies are now embedded in the 7 hours of online coursework.

  • Pick Your Path: Individual Courses

    COMT-1: Lumbar Spine

    This course is the first of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the lumbopelvic spine.

  • Pick Your Path: Accelerated CMPT Program

    COMT-2: Cervical Spine

    This is the second course of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the cervicothoracic spine.

  • Pick Your Path: Fellowship Program

    COMT-3: Thoracic Spine

    This is the third course in a series of 5 courses in the COMT certification. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the thoracic spine and rib cage.

    COMT-4: Upper Extremity

    This is the fourth course in a series of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the upper extremity.

    COMT-5: Lower Extremity

    This is the last course in a series of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the lower extremity.

    COMT Oral Practical Exam

    Participants in this exam are seeking certification as a COMT (Certified Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Therapist). Participants should have completed all of the COMT 1-5 courses and their accompanying online assessments (if applicable) prior to registration for this exam.


COMT (previously CMPT) Certification Online Tests/Oral Practical Exam

The NAIOMT COMT (previously CMPT) Certification requires the completion of all COMT 1-5 courses (previously 500 and 600 Level course equivalents), the post course online tests, and the COMT (previously C-630) Oral Practical Exam. COMT (previously CMPT) Post Course Online Tests Registration Links

These tests can be taken in any order. Registration deadline for online tests is on the Wednesday, 3 days prior to the test weekend.

Note: If you have taken C-511 or C-516 on or after January 1, 2020, the online test for these courses are no longer required. The online test questions have been transitioned into five - 10 question quizzes in LITMOS/Thinkific. If you have completed all of the online modules in LITMOS/Thinkific and attended the on-site course for each of these courses, you have completed the requirements for the courses.

All 600 Level/COMT 1-5 courses still require you to take the online test.

I.  C-730 Oral Practical Exam

**Note the registration deadline below**  There will be one C-730 exam scheduled each year. 


II.  C-730 Written Case Presentations

The registration deadline for the written case presentations is 30 days prior to the submission date. See the registration deadlines for each exam date below.

  • February 2025
    Case submission date is February 1, 2025
    Registration deadline is January 3, 2025

  • May 2025
    Case submission date is May 17, 2025
    Registration deadline is April 18, 2025

  • October 2025
    Case submission date is October 4, 2025
    Registration deadline is September 5, 2025
