🔔 ANNOUNCEMENT: NAIOMT/Messiah University Orthopedic Residency Program has been accredited by ABPTRFE!
DSc/Messiah University
“NEW” Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy Degree (D.Sc.)
In addition to continuing education courses and an orthopedic clinical residency program, Messiah University and NAIOMT have developed a D.Sc. in physical therapy degree program. Click the “Learn More” button below for the program details.
Enrich your physical therapy (PT) practice while fulfilling licensure requirements or pursue post-professional certification with continuing education courses and seminars at Messiah University.
The PT continuing education program includes a partnership with Messiah University to provide a series of two-day courses focused on orthopedic manual therapy that can be taken individually or stacked to earn post-professional certification. Messiah is also pleased to present periodic seminars for physical therapists and other healthcare professionals on topics relevant to practice today.
Eligible participants can earn pre-approved contact hours for PT for the state of Pennsylvania in every course and seminar.
Become a Certified Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Therapist (COMT)
Earn additional PT certification in less than a year at Messiah University!
The NAIOMT COMT program is a five-course series which is practical, lab-based and founded on the most common diagnoses seen in outpatient physical therapy. You’ll learn to evaluate efficiently, focusing on the most important patient goals, and learn how to construct an evidence-based episode of care, managing at the top of your license with a strong focus on functional exercise progressions and a relevant manual therapy approach.
NAIOMT courses are open to licensed physical therapists and third-year PT students. All of the courses provide pre-approved contact hours through the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy that can be applied to licensing requirements in Pennsylvania. Licensed PTs and third-year PT students who successfully complete COMT 1-5 courses and an elective are eligible for certification. Courses are scheduled in order to streamline completion for those seeking certification.
COMT-1: Lumbopelvic Spine – Integrated Concepts and Modern Management = 21 hours:
This course is the first of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the lumbopelvic spine. Participants will refine an efficient lumbopelvic screening examination and analyze total lower quadrant gait and movement, incorporating the patient’s health conditions, pain presentations, and relevant biopsychosocial factors. Mobility patterns of the lower quadrant system are studied, and the central and spinal neurophysiological factors determining normal and abnormal movement patterns. Management strategies include education, activity modification, manual therapy techniques, and individualized neuromuscular rehabilitation prescription, with the goal of restoring optimal function and preventing future health conditions and impairments. Participants will incorporate techniques into evidence-informed clinical practice guidelines for specific lower quadrant movement impairments and interpret relevant outcomes measures to guide treatment progression.
Course Details:
This course is 2 days onsite of lecture with hands on technique lab and 1 day asynchronous online:. Participants will receive an e-link to the online course materials 2 weeks prior to the course and an e-link to the onsite course materials 1 week prior to the course. Please watch for the links in your email inbox.
