What Can I Expect From the Sports Residency Program?
The NAIOMT Sports Residency is a unique program designed to facilitate and develop your expertise in working with athletes. Our comprehensive program blends didactic coursework, in-person labs, 150+ hours of 1:1 clinical mentoring, and over 200 hours of athletic venue coverage.

Our in-person labs provide a hands-on, immersive experience, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. When Does The Program Start and When Can I Start My Application?
Our 2025 application window is open! You can complete your application right now on our website. The next cohort of our Sports Residency program begins July 7, 2025. Applications to be a part of this cohort are due by May 1, 2025. But you don’t have to wait to apply! You can view the admission requirements and start your application today!
How Many Hours Does the Program Require?
The residency program consists of a total of 2,000 hours. The program is broken down into educational hours, patient-care hours, one-on-one mentoring hours, and athletic venue coverage hours. Upon completion of the program, residents will have a minimum of 300 educational hours, 1,500 patient-care hours, 150 one-on-one mentoring hours, and 200 athletic venue coverage hours.
Who is the Program Director of the Residency?
Our Sports Residency Program is directed by NAIOMT faculty member, Cassie Young, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT. Cassie Young graduated from Texas Women's University with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2016. She went on to pursue her CMPT through NAIOMT in 2017, became a board certified orthopaedic specialist in July of 2022, received her COMT and graduated from the NAIOMT fellowship program in July of 2022.
Cassie has worked in outpatient orthopaedics since 2016. She has also served as the Program Coordinator and clinical faculty for the Baylor Scott & White–Baylor University Orthopaedic Residency in Waco, Texas. She currently serves as associated faculty for Baylor University’s DPT Program in their musculoskeletal coursework.
