The NAIOMT Sports Residency is a unique program designed to facilitate and develop your expertise in working with athletes. Our comprehensive program blends didactic coursework, in-person labs, 150+ hours of 1:1 clinical mentoring, and over 200 hours of athletic venue coverage.

Dive into the intricacies of sports physical therapy through engaging didactic sessions, covering advanced topics and contemporary insights in the field. Our in-person labs provide a hands-on, immersive experience, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.

Experience growth in your clinical skillset with personalized 1:1 clinical mentoring. The program’s mentors are seasoned professionals and experts in the field, offering invaluable guidance as you refine your skills and build confidence in evaluating/treating athletes.

Step onto the field with confidence through our extensive athletic venue coverage opportunities, providing you with 200+ hours of exposure to various sports environments. This unique opportunity allows you to work directly with a diverse range of athletes, enhancing your ability to provide efficient and effective screening, evaluation, and/or treatment.

Residency Details

2,000 total hours of the residency program

  • Educational hours: 300 minimum
  • Patient-care hours: 1,500 minimum
  • Total 1:1 mentoring hours: 150 hours minimum

Program Director Cassie Young, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT

Cassie Young graduated from Texas Women’s University with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2016. She went on to pursue her CMPT through NAIOMT in 2017, became a board certified orthopaedic specialist in July of 2022, received her COMT and graduated from the NAIOMT fellowship program in July of 2022.

Cassie has worked in outpatient orthopaedics since 2016. She has also served as the Program Coordinator and clinical faculty for the Baylor Scott & White–Baylor University Orthopaedic Residency in Waco, Texas. She currently serves as associated faculty for Baylor University’s DPT Program in their musculoskeletal coursework.

ABPTRFE has granted NAIOMT Sports Residency Program Developing status. Developing status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation. Achieving developing status is not an indication that ABPTRFE will grant initial accreditation. Participants who graduate from a program in developing status are not deemed to have completed an accredited program.
