NAIOMT's PTA courses are designed to help you advance your clinical judgment and develop hands-on manual therapy skills specific to PTA outpatient orthopedic practice. Delivered in-person, each course gives you real-world, practical experience you can apply immediately in the clinic. Take individual courses to build specific skills, or complete the full series and pursue optional CMSK Certification.
Build practical skills to more effectively treat patients with a wide variety of neuromusculoskeletal (NMSK) issues. No certification commitment required — take any course individually.
Learning and progressing skills of neuromuscular re-education exercises for the spine and extremities.
Learning and progressing manual therapy and soft tissue skills for cervicothoracic, lumbopelvic spine, and extremity joints.
Each course stands on its own. Enroll in any course to gain specific skills — no commitment to the full series required.
Each course includes 8 hours of in-person lab instruction plus 3 hours of asynchronous online learning (11 hours total).
Intensive in-person labs utilize a case-based approach to learning for real-world clinical application.

This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement in utilizing and progressing therapeutic exercises and neuromuscular re-education interventions for the cervicothoracic and lumbopelvic regions.
Teaching will include 3-4 hours of online content followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach to learning.
This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement in utilizing and progressing therapeutic exercises and neuromuscular re-education interventions for the shoulder girdle, hip, knee and ankle/foot.
Teaching will include 3-4 hours of online content followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach to learning.
This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement and improve their hands-on manual therapy skills including traction, graded joint mobilization, and soft tissue mobilization for the cervicothoracic and lumbopelvic regions.
Teaching will include 3 hours of online content followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach.
This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement and improve their hands-on manual therapy skills including traction, graded joint mobilization, and soft tissue mobilization for the shoulder girdle, hip girdle, knee, and ankle/foot.
Teaching will include 3 hours of online content followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach.
If you complete all four courses above, you have the option to take a virtual oral practical exam (C-330) to earn the Certified Musculoskeletal (CMSK) credential. Certification is entirely optional — the courses are valuable on their own.

Kat Burns graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2014 from Ithaca College. She became a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through Therapeutic Associates' residency program in Eugene, OR, and went on to complete her Fellowship through NAIOMT, becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Manual Physical Therapy (FAAOMPT).
As part of her specialty, she pursued further breathing education and became a Certified Breathing Behavioral Analyst through Breathe Your Truth (BYT). She has also done certification through the International Schroth Three Dimensional Scoliosis Therapy (ISST). Kat really enjoys working with patients one-on-one, teaching continuing education courses, and mentoring therapists.
