Course Overview

Have you learned manipulation skills in class but struggle to integrate them into your clinical practice? Do you avoid using these techniques on your patients because it hurts your hands? Do you have difficulty performing manual therapy techniques or manipulations on patients larger than yourself? If you want to learn how to handle patients larger than yourself and do it with more efficiency and effectiveness then this is the course for you.

Amy Temes Clifton

Amy is a native Eugenean (Eugene, OR). She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in Missoula (2007) and completed her undergraduate degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of Puget Sound. She is the Director of Clinical Practice for Therapeutic Associates Inc. (TAI), working with providers to help enhance workflows, systems, and clinical practice patterns. This involves overseeing TAI’s Education Department and collaborating with other departments, to help move TAI’s “culture of learning” into a true “learning health organization”. She also sees patients at the TAI @ Southtowne Oregon Medical Group clinic in Eugene, OR and is a key mentor for the TAI Orthopedic Residency program. Amy completed her Orthopedic Residency in 2009, and then received her Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) certification in 2010. She further specialized as a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) in 2012 and completed her Fellowship through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in 2018. She enjoys working in orthopedics, spine and sports rehab, as well as vestibular and balance rehab. In addition to working as a physical therapist, she loves spending time with her husband and children most. Her favorite hobbies include running, swimming, cycling, downhill and XC skiing and reports she is most creative when baking.

Course Organizer

The North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, Inc. (NAIOMT) is a private physical therapist-owned organization dedicated to achieving the highest standards of clinical practice for manual physical therapists. NAIOMT specializes in a flexible teaching program, which seeks to promote the utilization of safe, effective and efficient manual physical therapy management of musculoskeletal dysfunction. It further seeks an environment that is conducive to the application of a reasoned approach to manual physical therapy through critical inquiry and the creation of new knowledge and skills based on scientific study and dissemination of that knowledge. NAIOMT strongly supports the union of the clinician, academician and researcher to further facilitate the development of quality patient care, physical therapy education and the development of master clinicians.
