Cleared to Throw: Manual Therapy for the Overhead Athlete = 12.0 hours
This 1 1/2-day is designed to equip the sports medicine professional with the skills to confidently manage the overhead throwing athlete. Developed for physical therapists and athletic trainers alike, Day 1 focuses on assessment and examination of the upper quarter joints, then moves into a hands-on, lab-based demonstration of the most commonly used manual therapy techniques for treating spinal and extremity disorders in this population. Participants will learn the systematic process of prepping a thrower for their start date โ including the rationale behind each procedure โ and explore how a thorough understanding of throwing biomechanics can inform provisional diagnoses for cervical, thoracic, and lumbar disorders. Day 2 shifts to shoulder care and recovery, and addresses the role that analytics, wearable technology, and workload monitoring play in managing the physical and biomechanical demands placed on these athletes. By the conclusion of the course, participants will have the confidence and clinical framework needed to manage the challenges faced by this unique population.
