COMT (previously CMPT) Certification Overview
COMT (Certified Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Therapist) Certification consists of *5 courses (105 hours) and an asynchronous assessment exam. Each course is 21 hours with 14 hours in-person + 7 hours of asynchronous online course work. There are no prerequisites for the COMT 1-5 courses so they can be taken in any order that fit your schedule. All 5 courses need to be complete including the required online coursework to be eligible to take the assessment exam. COMT-1: Lumbar Spine – This course is the first of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the lumbopelvic spine. 21 hours (14 hours in-person + 7 hours of asynchronous online coursework.
COMT-2: Cervical Spine – This is the second course of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the cervicothoracic spine. 21 hours (14 hours in-person + 7 hours of asynchronous online coursework.
COMT-3: Thoracic Spine – This is the third course in a series of 5 courses in the COMT certification. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the thoracic spine and rib cage. 21 hours (14 hours in-person + 7 hours of asynchronous online coursework.
COMT-4: Upper Extremity – This is the fourth course in a series of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the upper extremity. 21 hours (14 hours in-person + 7 hours of asynchronous online coursework.
COMT-5: Lower Extremity – This is the last course in a series of five courses in the COMT certification series. This case-based, lab-focused course features human movement and high performing PT management of the lower extremity. 21 hours (14 hours in-person + 7 hours of asynchronous online coursework.
COMT Assessment ExamParticipants in this exam are seeking certification as a COMT (Certified Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Therapist). Participants should have completed all of the COMT 1-5 courses including the online coursework prior to registration for this exam.

The NAIOMT COMT (previously CMPT) Certification requires the completion of all COMT 1-5 courses including the online coursework associated with each course and the Assessment Exam. If you have been working through the CMPT certification course requirements and have any questions regarding your transition to the COMT course equivalents, please contact Susan Windsor at [email protected].
Overview:
This exam is asynchronous and involves completing a series of modules. You will also be required to upload short videos demonstrating scanning exams, assessments and techniques. The exam schedule is below. Once the exam opens on the specified date you will have 30 days to complete the modules and upload your videos. Please reach out to Harley Herren at [email protected] if you have any questions.
