October 2025’s Focus

Every October, we celebrate National Physical Therapy Month to raise awareness about the many benefits of physical therapy. It’s also a great opportunity to appreciate what PTs, PTAs, and students do to transform lives. This October, the APTA will highlight the importance of physical therapy across one’s healthspan. The theme will focus on the role of physical therapy in optimizing movement and function at any age to support resilience and allow us to enjoy the freedom of movement into our golden years. Also highlighting prevention, wellness, and enhancing mobility and strength with the help of a PT for work, life, and play.

How Can We Incorporate This Theme Into Our Practice?

This year’s theme is a great topic to introduce into your practice as it relates to patients of any age. Whether your clients are younger, older, or in between, optimizing movement and function is important for all ages. As we know, many people fail to plan ahead for the mobility and daily function problems that can come later in life. This year’s theme presents the perfect opportunity to educate your patients about the preventative measures they can take at any age range to support resilience and freedom of movement as they age.

National Physical Therapy Month Resources

The annual observance of National Physical Therapy Month began in 1981 when the American Physical Therapy Association dedicated the month of October to celebrating the profession of physical therapy and educating the public about the benefits of physical activity and physical therapy. National Physical Therapy Month was established to honor the history of physical therapy and the dedication of physical therapists who work incredibly hard to improve the quality of life of their patients through improving strength, mobility, and function of the body. Aside from incorporating the theme of this year’s NPTM into your practice, there are even more ways to celebrate the month.
