Equivalency of Current Level II Written Examination
- The current Level II written “paper” examination is offered twice yearly and will CONTINUE for a minimum of two years, running parallel to the I-tests.
- A pass in the Level II written examination will be equivalent to a pass in the three I-tests.
- Completion of the Level II examination or the three I-tests does NOT permit the candidate to state they are “NAIOMT certified”. Certification within NAIOMT is only awarded after completing the Level III and Level IV examinations.

Q.1. How often will the I-tests be offered?
A. Initially 4-6 times per year, beginning Saturday, May 6th and Saturday, June 3rd 2006. Exact dates will be published soon. The I-test will be available on-line for the day of the I-test from early morning until evening.
Q.2. What will they cost?
A. Initially they will be offered at $45 each.
Q.3. How will I register?
A. On-line. Registration will be available at the NAIOMT web site in March. Registration can be up to TWO WEEKS before the I-test. There will be a registration deadline, after which registrations cannot be accepted for that day of I-tests.
Q.4. Will I get the results immediately?
A. No. Final results will be available within days after NAIOMT verifies the I-test performance. We do not use a “bell curve or cut score”. **See also Q 21**
Q.5. What if there is a computer problem during the I-test?
A. Help will be available on-line and by telephone to record and/or solve the problem.
Q.6. How long will each I-test take?
A. You will have a maximum of 2 hours per I-test.
Any test that exceeds the two hour limit will be disqualified. The candidate will need to reapply and re-submit the registration fee to retake the test.
Q.7. What is the scope of each I-test?
A. Each I-test will examine your knowledge of the material from one 6-day course syllabus (i.e. the 42 hours of a Level I/500 core course). The scope of the I-test will be the application and clinical reasoning of the material taught in the class, the course manual and independent study from the course reading list.
The amount of material to learn for each I-test is less than for the Level II written paper examination.
Q.8. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the current Level II written paper examination?
A. The scope of the original-style Level II written paper examination covers the material of all three courses 500, 600 and 610. The examination therefore covers more material, but is taken in one session of 2 hours. This examination is currently offered twice a year and requires registration at least one month before the examination. No computer is involved in the examination.

Q.9. Do I still need a proctor?
A. Yes. Both INTERNET I-test and "paper" examination require a proctor. Both currently are closed-book proctored tests/examinations, taken at a location convenient to both you and the proctor.
Q. 10. How do I select a proctor?
A. An appropriate proctor is a supervisor, senior physical therapist, past teacher or professor, pastor, or office employee. The proctor verifies that you were the person who completed the I-test, without assistance and in a closed-book environment.
Q. 11. When I pass the INTERNET I-test 500/level 1, am I certified at NAIOMT Level I?
A. No, you receive a letter or e-mail acknowledging you have passed, but you are not certified.
Also after Level II written or I-tests 600 and 610, you are not NAIOMT-certified. You have passed an examination or series of I-tests that identify a level of OMPT knowledge. NAIOMT does not give a certification or designation until all parts of the Level III examination that includes an oral-practical, have been completed.
Q. 12. Will there be a multiple-choice I-test to replace the LIII (3) intermediate written essay examination?
A. Not at this time. NAIOMT is continuously reviewing the examination process, but currently plans to retain the LIII essay-style examination. Similarly, NAIOMT is reviewing the level III case history examination, but no changes are currently planned.
Q. 13. Will this affect the oral-practical examinations?
A. No. The current station-style format of the Level III and Level IV oral practical examinations will not be affected or changed.
Q. 14. Are sample I-test questions available?
A. Yes. A description of the scope of each I-test, the main section headings and some sample questions will be available on-line in late March 2006. This will also describe the marking of the test. Wrong answers will not be penalized.

Q. 15. Can I “mix and match” I-tests and examinations?
A. If you took a 500/Level I I-test then decided you preferred a paper examination, you can then take the Level II written examination, but there will be no reduction in the examination cost.
Q. 16. Will I-tests be available for other NAIOMT courses?
A. Currently formal I-tests are not available for the NAIOMT 625 Extremity Manipulation core course nor for any of the Specialty Courses. Instructors may set informal I-tests in those classes.
Q. 17. Where will the thoracic material be tested?
A. I-test 500/Level I will include questions relevant to the thoracic as taught in that class.
I-test 600/Level II Upper Quadrant will include a few basic thoracic questions.
As the thoracic content is removed from the 600 course to the 640 and 740 thoracic courses over the next two years, NAIOMT will decide how and where to best test that material. Thoracic questions in the I-test 600 LII Upper quadrant will focus on the application of principles to that region.
Q. 18. What happened to the pre-course or CAT tests?
A. NAIOMT decided not to offer formal pre-course I-tests or assignments. Individual faculty may provide voluntary pre-course study, which you will receive with your course registration materials.
Q 19. Will I still be able to get a “B’ or higher grade recorded that I will need for university credits or my employer?
A. Yes. The three I-tests results will be averaged and a final grade awarded.
Q 20. If I need a higher grade than I achieved for university credits or for course tuition reimbursement from my employer, can I retake the I-test?
A. Yes. You can apply, submit the fee and re-take the I-test as many times as you need to achieve the grade you require.
Q 21. Can I get immediate feedback or breakdown of my test scores?
A. No. Individual's will not recieve numerical test scores of feedback pertaining to specific questions answered by candidates. Only a grade will be given. Please do not contact NAIOMT asking for this information.
